Senior Data Engineer - Software engineering background

We’re looking for an experienced Data / Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and wants to work with modern cloud and data platforms for exciting clients across Stockholm We’re looking for someone who can move comfortably between software engineering, data engineering, cloud architecture and distributed systems — designing solutions that are scalable, reliable and maintainable in real production environments. What you'll work with As a consultant at SwedQ, you'll work closely with engineering and product teams to design and build modern data-intensive systems. Depending on the assignment, that could mean building event-driven platforms, designing data architectures, developing backend services, improving large-scale data processing, or helping teams make better architectural decisions. For this specific position, we are looking for someone with significant exposure to the Google Cloud platform and services such as:

BigQuery

Pub/Sub

Dataflow / Apache Beam

Dataproc / Spark

Cloud Storage

Cloud Run and GKE

Cloud SQL / Spanner

Vertex AI and the broader GCP data ecosystem

Beyond experience with individual cloud services, we value an understanding of the principles behind them and an interest in exploring different technologies and architectural approaches That might include technologies such as Kafka, Flink, Spark, Kubernetes, Snowflake, Databticks, dbt, Airflow, terraform or equivalent services across cloud providers.

What we're looking for You have a strong software engineering foundation and several years of experience building production systems. You're comfortable discussing topics such as distributed systems, scalability, event-driven architectures, batch vs. streaming, data modelling, storage technologies, APIs, observability, reliability and cloud infrastructure. You probably have strong experience with Python, Java, Go, Kotlin, Scala or another modern engineering language, and you're comfortable working with SQL when solving data-intensive problems.

As a consultant Technical ability matters, but consulting requires more than writing good code. You'll work directly with clients, understand their problems, challenge assumptions when necessary and turn ambiguous requirements into pragmatic technical solutions. We therefore value people who:

Communicate technical concepts clearly

Enjoy collaborating with both engineers and stakeholders

Take ownership from problem to production

Are curious and continuously explore new technologies

Can balance technical excellence with business needs

Enjoy sharing knowledge and helping other engineers grow

Why join us? At SwedQ, we’re an international team with people from different backgrounds, cultures and experiences — and we believe that makes us stronger, both as engineers and as a company. We work with ambitious companies at the forefront of technology, giving you the opportunity to take on challenging projects, explore modern technologies and continue developing in the direction that interests you. But work is only part of it. We genuinely enjoy spending time together — whether it’s after-work activities, trips, sports, dinners, gaming or just finding an excuse to have some fun as a team. Most importantly, we listen to our consultants. We want to understand what motivates you, what you want to learn and where you want your career to go. Your interests and ambitions matter when we look at projects and opportunities. We want SwedQ to be a place where you can grow professionally, work with great people and have a good time along the way.
