Join Zocdoc as a Senior Software Engineer to build the data platform that connects our products with analytics, machine learning, and operational systems. You will work on the Data Engineering team, focusing on backend engineering and data infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include building APIs, libraries, schemas, services, and supported workflows to help engineers publish and use data safely. You will also improve event-driven data paths, create reliable ways to move curated data, design and operate compliance capabilities, and write infrastructure as code.

- Experience with distributed or event-driven systems, including delivery guarantees, idempotency, retries, ordering, dead-letter handling, and operational failure modes, plus hands-on work with Kafka or a comparable platform and a schema technology such as Avro, Protobuf, JSON Schema, or OpenAPI - Strong programming skills in Python, practical experience with SQL, and experience with at least one statically typed language such as C#, Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript - A record of building APIs, SDKs, shared libraries, data contract systems, or event publishing frameworks used outside your team, with a solid understanding of schema design, versioning, validation, code generation, and migrations - 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful work on backend, platform, developer infrastructure, or data-intensive systems - Experience operating cloud services with automated testing, continuous delivery, observability, infrastructure as code, and incident response, plus familiarity with warehouse or lakehouse platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Iceberg - Bonus points if you have built software in a regulated environment and understand practical controls for PHI or PII, including access, deletion, de-identification, lineage, and auditing
