About the Role:

We are seeking a talented and motivated, best-in-class Senior Data Engineer. This role presents an exciting opportunity to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment within a rapidly growing team, with abundant prospects for career advancement. This position will own the data pipelines, transformations, and reporting processes that support accurate, complete, and timely furnishing of customer account information to credit bureaus.

This role presents an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high growth environment while taking hands-on ownership of a critical customer-facing data function. You will dig into account data and code, debug SQL and Python workflows, and carry issues from investigation through verified resolution. You will partner with Customer Service to resolve technical dispute escalations, with Compliance to apply approved reporting requirements, and with Engineering when a fix is needed in production services or the consumer app. We are looking for an independent problem solver who can manage recurring reporting operations while improving the systems behind them.

What You’ll Do:

• Own recurring credit bureau furnishing operations, including data preparation, validation, submissions, bureau feedback, exception resolution, and reconciliation

• Build, maintain, and debug SQL transformations, Python scripts, and data pipelines that produce credit reporting data

• Trace discrepancies from account activity and source records through transformation logic to furnished outputs; identify root causes and implement lasting fixes

• Investigate escalations from Customer Service, explain what happened to account data and what should be reported under approved policies, and provide evidence to support their dispute responses

• Identify all accounts affected by reporting defects, implement corrections and controlled reprocessing, and verify the resulting reporting outcomes

• Develop automated tests, reconciliations, monitoring, and alerts to catch inaccurate, incomplete, duplicate, or unexpected reporting before submission

• Partner with Engineering on defects in production services or the consumer app, providing reproducible examples, affected-account analysis, and clear requirements; validate fixes through the reporting pipeline

• Work with Compliance to translate approved reporting requirements into technical rules and escalate ambiguous reporting scenarios

• Document reporting logic, data lineage, procedures, and incident resolutions so the process is repeatable and can be supported by others

What We Look For:

• Degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or a related quantitative discipline

• 5+ years of relevant experience in data engineering or software engineering, including hands-on ownership of production data pipelines and operational workflows

• Advanced SQL skills, including complex joins, account-level reconciliation, data profiling, and troubleshooting transformation logic

• Strong Python skills, including the ability to read unfamiliar code, debug existing scripts, and implement maintainable fixes

• Demonstrated ability to independently investigate ambiguous problems, prioritize recurring operations and incidents, and carry issues through to verified resolution

• Experience with version control, code review, automated testing, monitoring, and safe deployment and reprocessing of data workflows

• Excellent problem-solving skills, with a track record of tracing data defects across systems and preventing recurrence

• Strong business judgment and communication skills; able to explain technical findings to Customer Service and Compliance and work effectively with Engineering

• Fluent in English

• Demonstrated experience working with Claude or equivalent large language model tools is required; candidates must be comfortable leveraging AI to enhance productivity, research, and communication.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

•

Experience with credit reporting dispute workflows, e-OSCAR, Metro 2 format, and investigating escalations from customer support teams

•

Experience with dbt, Redshift, PostgreSQL, AWS, and workflow scheduling or orchestration tools

•

Experience in consumer lending, servicing, payments, financial services, banking, fintech, or BNPL

The Tech You’ll Work With:

• Python

• Redshift, PostgreSQL

• Data build tool (dbt)

• WS, G Suite, Mac

• Coding agents Claude, ChatGPT

Interview Process:

• Application submitted (you are here)

• Wonderlic test (30-40 min)

• Interview with recruiters (30 min)

• Online coding assessment focused on SQL, Python, and debugging

• Verbal case study interview. Walk through a credit reporting discrepancy, trace the data and code, and explain how you would correct and prevent the issue.

• Verbal behavioral interview. Share examples of independently resolving data incidents, improving reliability, and partnering with Engineering and Customer Service.

• Offer

About You:

• You have relentlessly high standards - many people may think your standards are unreasonably high. You are continually raising the bar and driving those around you to deliver great results. You make sure that defects do not get sent down the line and that problems are fixed so they stay fixed.

• You’re not bound by convention - your success—and much of the fun—lies in developing new ways to do things

• You need action - speed matters in business. Many decisions and actions are reversible and do not need extensive study. We value calculated risk-taking.

• You earn trust - you listen attentively, speak candidly, and treat others respectfully.

• You have backbone; disagree, then commit - you can respectfully challenge decisions when you disagree, even when doing so is uncomfortable or exhausting. You have conviction and are tenacious. You do not compromise for the sake of social cohesion. Once a decision is determined, you commit wholly.

• You deliver results - you focus on the key inputs and deliver them with the right quality and in a timely fashion. Despite setbacks, you rise to the occasion and never settle.
