UX Designer, AI App

ABOUT ACTAI

There are over 5 billion users using basic applications today such email, notes, tasks, calendar and they're not AI-native. Our mission is to build proactive applications for anyone in the world, who are not used to complex prompting. We aim to bring intelligence to conversations, errands, organising and workflows, with minimal to no prompting.

Our first application is an agent-first mobile communication app. We believe building applications that users use daily for communication, coordination and collaboration needs will help integrate AI into their lives. The net effect is to eliminate misinformation, achieve low coordination costs, enable high quality tasks and collaboration at scale with minimal or little prompting.

ROLE

You will own the UX of ActAI's core app experience. This means designing the end-to-end flows users go through every day - how they start tasks, how they follow along as the AI works, how they stay in control, and how they recover when something goes wrong.

This is a UX role for a HCI product. You need to understand both user needs and AI system behavior well enough to design product flows that feel clear, reliable, and controllable.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

- Own UX for ActAI's core app surfaces across iOS, Android, and web.

- Design complete user flows for AI-assisted tasks - from intent capture through to task completion, including handoff, progress tracking, and error recovery.

- Design how the app surfaces what the AI is doing, what decisions it has made, and what the user needs to confirm or adjust.

- Map and design the full range of AI states a user encounters - loading, thinking, acting, waiting, completing, stalling, failing, and recovering.

- Work with product, engineering, and ML teams to define user requirements and translate them into concrete design solutions.

- Conduct usability research to understand where users lose trust, feel uncertain, or disengage.

- Produce wireframes, user flows, and high-fidelity designs that engineering can build from directly.

- Contribute to the design system and shared UX patterns for AI app surfaces.

- Design for both simple everyday interactions and complex multi-step AI workflows within the same product.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

- Experience as a UX designer on consumer mobile or web apps, with a strong portfolio.

- Solid skills in user flow design, wireframing, and high-fidelity prototyping in Figma.

- Ability to design for systems that are asynchronous, non-deterministic, and context-dependent.

- Clear thinking about user trust, control, feedback, and transparency in AI-driven product experiences.

- Experience conducting user research and turning findings into design decisions.

- Comfortable working in fast-moving teams with evolving product scope.

- Ability to balance simple consumer UX with complex AI system behavior.

- Good judgment on usability, edge cases, failure handling, and recovery flows.

HOW WE WORK

The best products today in the world were built by small, world class teams. We are a high talent density and hands-on team. We make decisions collectively, move at rapid speed, striking a balance between shipping high quality work and learning. Joining our team requires the ability to bring structure, exercise judgment, and execute independently. Our goal is to put in hands of our users a truly magical product

INTERVIEW PROCESS

For design roles, we expect candidates to submit a portfolio as part of the application process.

If there appears to be a fit, we'll reach out to schedule 2 rounds of interviews and a design assessment.

Applications are evaluated by our team members. Interviews will be conducted via virtual meetings and/or onsite.

We value transparency and efficiency, so expect a prompt decision. If you've demonstrated the exceptional skills and mindset we're looking for, we'll extend an offer to join us. This isn't just a job offer; it's an invitation to be part of a team that's bringing AI to have practical benefits to billions globally.
